Make complex sound measurements with a simple device!

Some noise of our modern life can have detrimental effect to our hearing. To avoid such side effects, unwilling sound has to be reduced. But noise changes depending on the listening conditions and diffusion. Measurements and simulation help identifying the root cause of an emanating source. However, noise testing is mostly done under lab conditions. But lab conditions are non realistic, lab testing is restrictive, expensive and time consuming.

In-situ measurements allows an exposition to a real-life situation.

The SonoCat is a multifunctional spherical microphone array. It consists of 8 digital MEMS microphones distributed in a rigid sphere. These are used to collect all the acoustic data needed to calculate the sound pressure level, 3D sound intensity vector and sound absorption coefficient. The SonoCat is calibrated to a high standard and can be used to perform both point and scan measurements. A point measurement can for example be used to measure the sound pressure or the 3D sound intensity vector to locate in which direction a sound source emits. On the other hand, a scan measurement can provide the sound power of a machine or the average sound absorption of a surface.
The SonoCat is plugged to a PC or a tablet where the SonoCat Software is installed and used for monitoring, acquisition and analysis of the recorded soundfield.
